At DATUM our goal is to strike the perfect balance between form and function. At Datum we realize that these two criteria can be married in a single design that is equally pleasing in both form and function.
DATUM has had a wide variety of on-the-job experience with projects of all types and sizes since its inception in 1988. We have experience with numerous Architect/Contractor/Owner arrangements from the conventional design-bid-build method to design build and all the variations between the two. We are adept at coordinating our consultants, code authorities, contractors and all of the other parties involved throughout the course of each project.
Occasionally a client needs to know the condition and/or the feasibility of using an existing structure. Since DATUM is a multi-disciplined A/E firm having both Architects and Structural Engineers on staff, we are well equipped to assist in such decisions. If the project warrants the inclusion of other consultants such as mechanical, electrical, environmental or hazardous materials abatement, DATUM can procure and/or coordinate their services for the client.
Along with the rising cost of labor and materials, everyone in the construction industry is suffering from the soaring cost of land. In some places land availability is almost non-existent which adds to the cost and makes maximizing land usage imperative. The computer age has given Architects and Engineers a wonderful tool that allows them to utilize all of the project's available land, thus minimizing the purchase cost to the Owner. At DATUM we pride ourselves in using current technology for site analysis in the areas of traffic and pedestrian circulation, parking, strategic building placement and directional and informational signage.
We offer budgetary project costs for our clients with our normal Architectural Services. However, for those clients who wish to have a closer look as what costs may be involved in their project, DATUM offers detailed cost analysis services. In doing a detailed cost analysis, we categorize the project elements into the sixteen standard CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) divisions. Each division is then further divided into individual elements and then quantified both, as a total amount and as a total cost for that particular element in the project. A detailed cost analysis requires attention to detail and thoroughness – two qualities that you will find at DATUM .
ENGINEERING SERVICES
DATUM supports all of its own projects' structural engineering needs with the aid of in-house Structural Engineers. Our Structural Engineering Department has gained a broad range of experience over the years in all forms of steel, wood and concrete design. We have amassed a repertoire of foundation designs using drilled shafts, bell-bottom shafts, driven piles, grade beams, structurally supported slabs and spot, spread and continuous footings. In steel design we have worked with steel beam and column building frames, open-web bar joists, joist girders, steel truss design and composite construction. In the wood category, we have designed wooden trusses with bolted connections, laminated wood arches, beams and columns and simple post and beam applications. We have also designed concrete structures using structurally reinforced concrete columns, beams and joists.
DATUM 's Civil Engineering Services generally consist of designing parking lots, entrance and exit driveways, site contouring and site drainage. We have limited ourselves to these areas, because they provide support for our building design services, which are the mainstay of our company. Should the need arise for Civil Engineering Services outside of these parameters defined above, we will procure and/or coordinate the services of any consultant that may be necessary.

We are well versed in the latest trends in commercial and home decor. Even more importantly, we understand the qualities and characteristics of the products we recommend. Since we are not salespeople, we have no interest other than our client's at heart when we select finishes and furnishings for your space. We pride ourselves in getting to know our clients, understanding their tastes and interpreting them as well developed color, finish and furnishing plans. Our services range from the simple Room Color and Finish Schedules afforded our architectural clients to much more comprehensive designs which may include interior 3-dimensional color renderings.
